Half the population is female, but women are underrepresented in positions of leadership in our world. Newday helps promote women leaders through its initiative Lead With Women. In the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University published a 2019 count of women in elected office at the local, state, and national level. Between 20% - 30% of America’s elected officials are women; less than 10% are women of color. The Pew Research Center’s 2018 report on women leaders finds that only about 30% of university presidents are women. Less than 25% of Fortune 500 board members and less than 5% of CEOs are women. Unfortunately, these numbers represent drastic increases in leadership positions for women over the last decade. More work needs to be done for women to take on an equal leadership role in our society.
